Railway Path closure, off Bolnore

By Elaine Goodwin

The Railway Path (path 2 on the map shown) from the Bridleway to the Brooklands/Highbanks junction at Pierces Wood has been closed due to Network Rail drainage works. The works involve constructing a new drainage tunnel along the west side of the railway within the Ashenground Woods area, in order to stop the flooding of the track which occurs in heavy rainfall.

The main access route to the site is via Ashenground Bridge which will remain open during the works but for safety reasons will be temporarily closed to the public when deliveries arrive. Work is being carried out on site daily between the hours of 7am and 7pm. During the eight day railway line closure, between Saturday 16th and Saturday 23rd February, the works will be carried out 24 hours a day.

As part of the works a number of trees have been removed on the South Railway Shaw (marked as 10 on the map). The trees will be replaced with saplings after works are completed in June 2019.

Contact Network Rail with any questions or concerns on their 24-hour National Helpline on 03457 11 41 41.

Woodies Quiz Nights in Bolnore

bolnore-quiz-nights.jpg

By Alison Armstrong

Woodies Quiz Nights are held once a month at The Woodside in Bolnore Village, typically on the last Saturday of the month unless an event means having to move it.

This month’s quiz will be held on Saturday 26th January 2019. All teams should arrive by 7.45pm at the latest to register and get their drinks ready for a prompt 8pm start.

Our amazing quizmaster, Jim Hoodless, arranges a very challenging but fun quiz with tweet rounds, linkee’s, music, picture and general knowledge rounds. There are regular teams who fight for the top spot every month; either ‘Sorry We Were Chatting’ or ‘Woodies Wonders’ tend to get that top spot. Is there a team of between two and six people who can challenge them and win that first place prize of three bottles of wine?

Come along with friends, neighbours or family and test your knowledge, enjoy a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Order a takeaway to have during the quiz. There are several restaurants in and around Haywards Heath who deliver to The Woodside, the most popular being pizza.

Woodies Bar takes cash and card and offers a wide range of beverages at very reasonable prices, and the bar staff are always friendly and welcoming.

Jim, Alison, Denise and Sophie would love to welcome new teams and new regulars to Woodies Bar so book a table by contacting me, Alison, on alison.events@ bolnore.org.uk.

Help for heart patients in Cuckfield

Bounceback classes take place weekly in Cuckfield, West Sussex

Bounceback classes take place weekly in Cuckfield, West Sussex

Heart patients are bouncing back to health after enrolling on a new exercise class and support group at Cuckfield Baptist Church Hall.

Designed to help patients gain fitness, strength and confidence and return to a normal life following major illness, the Bounceback classes are an extension to the six week GP referral scheme.

Although initially for heart patients, the classes have evolved and are now suitable for people with many different health problems. Members also include partners of patients and those at risk of heart problems wanting to take preventative action.

“We have members with Parkinsons, with diabetes, arthritis and other health problems,” said instructor Freddie Jones. “The beauty of this class is that everyone has their own programme, specifically designed for them, and works at their own level. There are massive differences in members’ abilities but everyone can workout together and motivate each other.”

For Cuckfield’s Steve Jennings, the classes have played an important part in his recovery after a brush with death in 2008.

“I suffered major heart failure and was given just days to live,” Steve recalled. “I went home to die, but refused to give up!” Nine years later Steve enjoys attending the weekly classes, safe in the knowledge that the instructors are aware of his medical history and are qualified to devise an exercise programme tailored to his needs. “I feel so much better for it,” said Steve. “The support from the instructors and other members is wonderful.”
